The AAU strives to provide athletes with first-class athletic opportunities but, beyond the athletic surface, we strongly believe in instilling a sense of social responsibility in the more than 700,000 members nationwide with our AAU Cares initiative.

Hurricane season is always a trying time, bringing with it uncertainty, damage to houses and devastation to hard hit areas. This past 2018 season was no different, with many hurricanes impacting people, their homes and loved ones as these forces of nature made landfall. We hope to provide some small measure of assistance to those rebuilding the homes, and in some cases, lives negatively impacted by Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael and through donations to Habitat for Humanity.

During our annual Convention, AAU volunteers and leaders were asked to donate to helping those in need.  Thanks to the generosity of twelve (12) AAU Districts and four (4) AAU National Sport Committees, the organization raised $16,500 which was donated to Habitat for Humanity to assist in the rebuilding of homes for those affected by the 2018 hurricane season in the United States.
